Social Skills Field Trip & Student Council 2017

A busy day! In the morning we took the students to the local park and each teacher in Grade Three planned an activity, which focused on social skills (team building).

In the afternoon was the student council elections. This year I had nine students who put themselves forward. Each student had to present to the class a short speech for why they should be chosen and then the class voted for two representatives. I really like the idea of having a student council, but I do find it hard to watch the children that were not successful. They all put so much work and effort into their campaigns and in an instance their smiles of anticipation can turn to faces of disappointment. Although I put a lot of effort into preparing them for both successful and unsuccessful outcomes, as is with human nature disappointment can be hard to take. However, this year most of the students were really honourable in defeat and showed great resilience. I tried my best to make sure that they left that day feeling proud of their achievements; and I think I managed to do that successfully!
